After studying biology (majoring in zoology, parasitology, virology) at the Philipps University of Marburg, Katharina Welling conducted research at the Marburg Institute of Virology (Department of Medicine) on a FAZIT scholarship.
After this academic activity, she first worked from 2009 as a coordinator for congresses and VIP events at Messe Frankfurt. Later, she assisted the Messe Frankfurt Executive Board within the Protocol Department in hosting events and high-ranking guests from the worlds of politics and business.
From 2012, she coordinated the research training group of the collaborative research centre on membrane transport (CRC 807) at Goethe University. Since 2016, Katharina Welling has been working for the Goethe University Executive Board as a research strategy officer with a focus on the support of early career researchers.
In June 2021 she became Managing Director of the Johanna Quandt Young Academy at Goethe.
