Research Area: Ancient and Byzantine History
Research focus: Late Antique Christianity; ecclesiastical history; the successors of Justinian (565-610)
Vita: Silvio Roggo holds a postdoctoral position at the University of Frankfurt (since 2022), where he works on the DFG-funded project “Commentary to John of Ephesus’s Ecclesiastical History”. He obtained his PhD in History from the University of Cambridge in July 2022, having written a thesis on the patriarchate of Constantinople in the late sixth century. Previously, he studied in Oxford for a MSt in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies. He received his degree of Master of Arts in Ancient History from the University of Heidelberg, and he first graduated in History and Classics from the University of Freiburg/Switzerland.

Research focus: Katharina is a social anthropologist who explores the interlinkages between science, technology and society ethnographically in domestic contexts. Her interests range from food, gender and the family to knowledge reproduction as well as urban space, global markets and poverty.

Research focus: Marília studies multilingual women writers in 18th century Europe. Her book project analyzes how multilingual writing techniques (translation, foreign-language writing, and code-switching) served as strategic tools to participate in Enlightenment debates and construct female erudition.

Research area: Mitochondrial signalling during stress and aging
Research focus: Beyond energy production, mitochondria serve as signalling hubs crucial for cellular adaptation to stress, particularly in disease and aging. Reymond’s research focuses on how mitochondria regulate cellular responses at both RNA and protein levels under stress. He investigates how mitochondria detect stress, transmit signals to activate adaptive pathways, and influence overall cell survival.
Dr Aliénor Ballangé

Research area: Political Theory; Democratic Theory; European Integration
Research focus: Aliénor’s research consists in articulating European studies, democratic theory and critical theory in order to renew studies on the crisis of representative democracy in the EU. She also uses ethnographic research on transnational citizens’ assemblies to assess how citizens’ attitudes and perceptions of trust and democracy may change as they become increasingly involved in the decision-making process.
